Babies and Younger Toddlers – Little Acorns and Seedlings
Children at the nursery are organised into 4 different age groups, occupying 2 separate buildings.
Our younger children are housed in Oak House which overlooks the front lawn. Children can join the nursery from 9 months. Our youngest children (9-18 months approximately) spend most of their day as the “Little Acorns” group, occupying one tw
o large playrooms at the front of the building. This room is designed to be a home from home where the youngest children can be nurtured in cosy spaces and learn to explore the bigger spaces whether crawling, shuffling or taking their first steps. There are lots of floor level activities as well as those placed a little higher to encourage children to pull themselves up, to stand and to walk. There is a soft play corner for practising those all important climbing and balancing skills, opportunities for mark making, a cosy book corner, an inviting home corner and lots of toys to encourage investigation.
The room opposite provides for our “Seedlings” group” (18-30 months approximately) with areas for role play, cosying up with a book, mark making and art, developing physical skills and of course construction and playing with small world toys.
The building also contains a nappy changing room and separate rooms for sleeping either in cots or on sleep mats on the floor. The Kitchen provides a cosy dining area where babies sit either at low tables or in high chairs.
Finally, there is a beautiful sensory room where children experience awe and wonder at the display of lights, range of textures and relaxing soft textiles and can explore a range of treasure baskets for sensory play.
Of course the children have lots of access to our outdoor spaces. We have a small fenced in grassy area for those children who are still finding their feet. Once confident enough, the younger toddlers play in our large play area. All children go out on walks and of course explore our lovely field.
